Nomad is a pioneering 'Outland Whisky' born from a collaboration between Spanish sherry house González Byass — based in Jerez de la Frontera — and Whyte & Mackay master blender Richard Paterson. The concept is as simple as it is distinctive: whisky that begins its life in Scotland is brought to Spain for a further period of maturation in González Byass's own sherry casks, where the warm Andalusian climate accelerates and deepens the influence of the wood. The result is a style that defies traditional category boundaries. The Nomad portfolio spans several expressions, including the original blended Scotch Outland Whisky, the Nomad Reserve Triple Cask, and a Single Malt Outland Whisky — each shaped by Speyside spirit aged initially in bourbon casks in Scotland before finishing in sherry-seasoned barrels in Jerez. More recently, González Byass has expanded the range to include an Irish whiskey expression, underscoring the brand's boundary-crossing ambitions. The range is produced at the bodega in Barbastro, Huesca. Nomad has quickly built a strong reputation on the international stage. In 2025, the brand took Double Gold at the World Whisky Masters, reflecting the quality of its innovative dual-maturation approach. González Byass has also announced plans to expand the Nomad concept to new origins, with Japan and the United States under consideration.
