45 Year Old 1980 Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Heritage Collection

Bourbon Barrel Rye
34 Year Old 1991 Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Heritage Collection
Rosebank is a Lowland icon, and this 1991 bottling from Gordon & MacPhail belongs to their new Heritage Collection — a curated selection of exceptionally rare single malts from closed or reopened distilleries, presented with a revived vintage map label. This is one of the few surviving bottles from a distillation run now more than three decades old.
Thirty-four years in a first-fill bourbon barrel has produced a whisky that transcends the typical green, citric Rosebank signature. Where you might expect grass and herbs, you find instead a richer, fruitier character: yellow fruit gums, peach candy, and passion fruit syrup, supported by vanilla and hints of coconut cream. Gorse and mint provide vibrancy, while chalky notes and lime zest refine the composition.
On the palate, citrus and mint converge with cedarwood and spiced bread, white pepper and cardamom, touched by honey. The finish is medium-length, warm, and zesty with a whisper of oak. This is classic Rosebank — but with more layered depth and seduction than the style typically offers.
