Powers is one of Ireland's most historic whiskey brands, founded in 1791 by James Power at the John's Lane Distillery in Dublin. In 1821, John Power brought his son James into partnership on the latter's 21st birthday, and the distillery traded thereafter as John Power & Son. A landmark moment came in 1886, when Powers became the first distiller in Ireland to bottle their own whiskey — a pioneering move that helped define the modern whiskey industry. Powers Gold Label went on to become one of the best-selling whiskeys in the world. In 1966, Powers merged with Jameson and the Cork Distilleries Company to form Irish Distillers, and production eventually moved to the renowned Midleton Distillery in Cork. Today, Powers is celebrated for its range of single pot still Irish whiskeys — a distinctly Irish style made from a mash of both malted and unmalted barley. The brand continues to innovate, most recently launching what is claimed to be the world's first 100% Irish rye whiskey, born from trials at Midleton Distillery. Now part of the Pernod Ricard portfolio, Powers has firmly regained its luster as a benchmark Irish whiskey brand, admired by enthusiasts and newcomers alike for its bold, spicy character and deep historical roots.
