Gold Label
Powers – Gold Label was founded in 1791 by James Power, an innkeeper on John's Lane in Dublin whose whiskey-making sideline became so popular it soon eclipsed his tavern business. The name derives from the gold label that adorned each bottle—a detail noted by British historian Alfred Barnard during his visit to the original distillery. Today, Powers – Gold Label is produced at Midleton Distillery in County Cork, the same facility that makes Jameson.
This is a blend of pot still and grain whiskey—two traditional Irish styles that combine to deliver a complex, spicy character. The whiskey matures in used American oak casks, which contribute depth without overwhelming the spirit.
