20 Year Old 2006 Refill Bourbon Barrel #2107

Bourbon Barrel

About

Glendronach is celebrated for its sherry-matured whiskies, but this limited-edition single-cask release from Woodrow's of Edinburgh takes a different route. Distilled in March 2006 and matured for two decades in a refill bourbon barrel (Cask #2107), this bottling offers a refreshing counterpoint to the distillery's traditional profile. Just 205 bottles were filled in April 2026. The refill bourbon maturation allows the character of the Highland malt to emerge with clarity. The nose reveals poached pear, lychee, and honey, followed by almond and freshly ground coffee. The palate is silky-textured with white chocolate and coffee notes, accompanied by green grape and star anise. The finish extends long with warming spices—marzipan, tobacco, cardamom, and nutmeg—that fade gradually. At 51.9% ABV, this bottling delivers strength without harshness, a balanced exploration of what Glendronach can be without the heavy hand of sherry maturation. This is a whisky for those who value the subtlety of twenty years' ageing and the delicate character of bourbon cask influence.
