Dallas Dhu 50 Year Old 1971 – A Heritage Bottling

Gordon & MacPhail introduces the Dallas Dhu 50 Year Old 1971 as part of the new Connoisseurs Choice Heritage Collection, celebrating George Urquhart's legacy. Urquhart launched the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968 to make rare single malts accessible to enthusiasts. The iconic map label from 1988–1996 returns for this release, adding nostalgic significance. Only 100 sets will be available, each presented in a handsome wooden case.

This Speyside single malt is 50 years old and was bottled in 2021 from a refill American hogshead at a modest 43.7% ABV. Despite the lower strength, the whisky delivers remarkable complexity that only comes with age. The nose reveals waxed paper, apricot jam, honey, walnuts, and subtle spice, with hints of marzipan and dried herbs. On the palate, an oily, almost buttery texture carries warmth and pepper, alongside nutmeg, citrus, tobacco, and herbal tea notes.

The finish is medium-length but never tired, with honey and warming spice lingering gracefully. This is a lovely old profile—a worthy opening to the Heritage Collection series.
