About
Hedonism was Compass Box's inaugural release in 2000 and made history as Scotland's first whisky to feature a woman on its label—a distinction the brand has honoured with each annual edition, inviting female artists to reinterpret the design. The 2024 release carries artwork by Stephanie Rew. This is a blended grain whisky, a rare category built from old, premium grain spirits matured primarily in first-fill bourbon casks—a format that shifts focus from peated malts to the subtler pleasures of grain distillation. The blend draws from three grain distilleries, including Cameronbridge, creating a complex array of patisserie aromas: exotic vanilla, clove-infused caramel, and creamy custard on the palate. The nose is classic grain—sweet and velvety, with none of the smoke that defines malt whisky. On the palate, layers of custard unfold with honey and fudge notes, punctuated by white pepper and charred oak. The wood influence is present but restrained, adding structure without overwhelming the inherent sweetness. This is a whisky that rewards attention without demanding it—grain whisky's quiet refinement rather than malt's bold assertion.
