About
Scapa was established in 1885 by Macfarlane, a Glasgow-based blender, on Orkney's Mainland, overlooking Scapa Flow. After decades of closure, the distillery underwent a multi-million-pound renovation in 2004 and reopened. The 10 Years is the entry point to Scapa's Signature Series—an accessible introduction to the distillery's house style: smooth, honeyed, and surprisingly soft for an island malt. Matured for ten years in American white oak casks, the whisky develops its character from local barley and Orkney spring water, combined with traditional distillation methods that define Scapa's characteristically gentle approach. The nose presents fresh fruit—pineapple, mango—with vanilla, toffee, and honey, underpinned by malt and oak. The palate follows with white fruit, almond, and gentle spice. A straightforward, drinkable dram that captures Orkney's island character without the smoke or salt found in some of its peers.
