About

Ben Nevis was founded in 1825 by John MacDonald, known as 'Long John', at the foot of Scotland's highest mountain in the Highlands. One of Scotland's oldest licensed distilleries, it has been owned by Nikka Whisky of Tokyo since 1989. The distillery is renowned for a characteristic, slightly meaty quality — a subtle funkiness that is essential to Ben Nevis's identity. This 13-year-old single malt was matured in a first fill hogshead with heavy toast and medium char, ensuring pronounced oak influence. At 57.8% ABV, it delivers a full, unfiltered experience without compromise. On the nose, toasted oak and vanilla emerge, underpinned by the dry, fruity character Ben Nevis is known for. The palate is oily and balanced, with notes of dried fruit and a lightly spiced finish. This is a whisky that makes no apologies — the full strength and intense cask treatment make it a serious dram for those who value wood and concentration.
