Glasgow 1770 single malt scotch whisky Peated (oak/sherry)

single malt scotch whisky Peated (oak/sherry)

Virgin OakAmerican OakFinish: Pedro Ximenez Cask

About

Glasgow 1770 takes its name from the founding year of the original Glasgow Distillery—a landmark moment in Scottish whisky history. The Glasgow Distillery Company revived this legacy in 2014, becoming Glasgow's first single malt distillery since 1902, and deliberately chose this date to honour that heritage. This peated expression is made from barley malted to 50 ppm using peat from Aberdeenshire, matured first in virgin American white oak casks. A finishing period in PX sherry casks adds a layer of sweet, dark-fruit complexity that tempers rather than overwhelms the smoke. The result is a whisky where new oak plays a structural role—not a polished, refined dram, but one where wood and peat meet with real edge. On the palate, smoke and sherry's sweetness sit in genuine tension: smoky barbecue sauce, dark fruit, and a peppery bite. The finish is long and soft, with salted caramel and liquorice notes that fade slowly.
