About
Kanekou takes its name from the historical identity of Shinzato Distillery, established in 1846 as one of the first licensed awamori producers in the Ryukyu Kingdom. That traditional rice spirit—a drink once enjoyed by Ryukyuan nobility—forms the distillery's foundation; the label honours that heritage directly. Now Shinzato applies its centuries-old expertise in fermentation and tropical-climate distillation to whisky. The blend marries malt and grain whisky (aged 3+ years) with rice whisky (Ryukyu) matured in sherry casks for 8+ years. Okinawa's subtropical climate accelerates maturation, while the Pacific breeze adds mineral character. On the nose, soft and bready notes emerge alongside yellow apple and anise, followed by toffee and a light smoky edge. The palate brings citrus, candied ginger and minerals, though with a youthful, slightly raw quality. The finish is short and neutral.
