Taketsuru Pure Malt Essentials

Sherry CaskBourbon Barrel

About

The Taketsuru Pure Malt Essentials honours Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka and recognised as the father of Japanese whisky. Taketsuru established Nikka in 1934 with a vision to craft authentic whisky in Japan, a mission he pursued for four decades with the devoted support of his Scottish wife, Rita Cowan. This limited edition release builds on the heritage of the Taketsuru range, showcasing Nikka's commitment to pure malt whisky craftsmanship. The blend unites malts from Nikka's two flagship distilleries: sherry-cask maturations from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, complemented by remade-cask malts from Miyagikyo. This composition marries the robust, fruity character of the northern Yoichi with the more delicate, floral-leaning profile of Miyagikyo. On the nose, bright citrus, pear, and grape emerge alongside subtle spice and hints of roasted malt. The palate is smooth and syrupy, opening with honey and nuttiness, then revealing tropical notes of watermelon and peach beneath a restrained sherry influence. The finish unfolds softly and warmly, with lingering fruit and nut flavours fading gradually.
