About
Clonakilty Barley Wine emerges from eight generations of farming on the same County Cork land, where founder Michael Scully and his team source barley exclusively from their coastal family fields or neighbouring growers. That commitment to local terroir — from grain to glass — is rare in Irish whiskey and shapes everything that follows. This expression was matured in American oak, then finished in casks that previously held Pelican Brewing's acclaimed Mother of All Storms English-style barley wine. The result is layered and warming: dark stone fruits, Christmas cake, and toasted bread, underpinned by spice notes of clove and nutmeg. On the palate, rye bread and roasted almond emerge, with a silky mouthfeel that carries through to a finish of leather and oak spice. Bottled at 56.3% ABV, this is uncompromising — the strength allows the full complexity of the cask interaction to shine. It rewards those who want to taste place and family history in their dram.
