About
Bruichladdich's Islay Barley 2011 is a study in terroir and raw ingredient. The distillery sourced barley grown on Islay itself, giving this single malt a direct connection to the island's soil and climate. After six years maturing in a blend of ex-bourbon casks (75%) and sweet wine casks (25%), the result is a whisky that embraces Islay's salty coast without leaning on smoke. The nose opens with salt, earthy grain, and coconut, followed by bright citrus and fresh-mown grass. The palate balances almond and walnut against tinned peaches and malt, with a seaweed-like sourness that keeps the dram lively and mineral. The finish is clean and dry, with lingering cereal and maritime character. This is a whisky that trades drama for clarity—no peat theatrics, just the raw flavour of Islay barley and careful cask work. A study in restraint for those who love the island's character without the smoke.
