About

Bruichladdich's Re/Define range embodies the distillery's core philosophy: traceability from field to bottle. This 21-year-old single malt marries barley from mainland Scotland and Islay itself, a deliberate statement against industrial anonymity. Since the distillery's resurrection in 2001 under the vision of master distiller Jim McEwan, Bruichladdich has championed transparency — every cask is sourced and tracked with purpose. Matured primarily in ex-bourbon casks with secondary influence from Sauternes and Port wood, the spirit develops a soft, layered character. At 50% ABV, Re/Define Twenty One reveals itself without compromise: fruity and elegant on the nose, with peach, citrus, and vanilla. The palate is viscous and balanced, honey and apricot emerging alongside subtle spice and a whisper of aniseed. This is restrained Islay — no peat aggression, no single note dominating. Instead, a composed, almost oily texture carries you through to a long finish where nutmeg and fennel seeds linger. A whisky that rewards attention rather than demanding it.
