Aberfeldy was established in 1896 by brothers John and Tommy Dewar in Perthshire, drawing water from the Pitilie Burn. This 18-year-old single malt is a limited edition finished in Bolgheri Tuscan red wine casks — a rare choice that imparts robust dark fruit flavours and an intense oak finish. The whisky spent 18 years maturing in a combination of first-fill bourbon and refill/re-char casks, followed by four to five months in the Tuscan wine casks. This produces a full, sweet character with considerable tannin and oak influence. On the nose, layers of cherry, morello, and vanilla emerge alongside toasted marzipan. The palate reveals toffee and caramel, joined by heather honey notes. The finish is intense and dry, with significant oak tannins that demand attention.
