Old Potrero takes its name from the San Francisco hill where the distillery stands, a name rooted in 18th-century Spanish settlement. Hotaling & Co. (formerly Anchor Distilling) launched this brand in 1996 as one of America's first craft whiskeys. It is a pure rye single malt—a rare category using 100% malted rye rather than the typical grain blend. This bottling is aged in extra fine grain American oak, air-dried for 24 months. The high ABV of 62.1% delivers a full, intense character without requiring water. On the nose, caramel and vanilla emerge first, followed by warm rye spices—cinnamon, pepper, and a hint of citrus. The palate is direct and spicy, with sweet rye grain and woody warmth. The finish is long and dry, with nutty notes and a lingering peppery tingle.
