12 Year Old 2013 Cask #6015

Virgin Oak

About

Warenghem distilled this 12-year-old Armorik on Brittany's pink granite coast—among France's earliest whiskies. This cask #6015, bottled for Wu Dram Clan in 2026 at full strength (59.1%), is a telling study in virgin American oak. The nose delivers abundant malt sweetness, vanilla and sweet apple, with buttery and biscuit notes, followed by lightly dusty spice balanced by fresh wood—at times reminiscent of modern rye or Nordic malts, with mint leaf and white pepper lurking in the distance. On the palate, citrus, ginger and firm peppermint emerge alongside a pastry-like sweetness: vanilla cake, sweet lemon, hints of peach. Then spice and herb take over, adding freshness and warmth with toasted wood. Full-bodied throughout. The finish holds decent length, anchored in spice, vanilla and toasted oak. This works better than expected—virgin oak rarely disappoints here. Fresh and punchy, with a herbal-grainy character that feels distinctly mainland European. A compelling glimpse of what French single malt can be.
