1996 The Single Malts of Scotland 25y
About
Imperial Distillery was established in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee—a name reflecting founder Thomas Mackenzie's grand ambitions. The distillery closed in 2000, making aged Imperial stocks increasingly rare and sought after. This 1996 release is bottled by The Single Malts of Scotland, an independent bottler known for curating classic Speyside malts. Matured for 25 years in an ex-bourbon barrel—a traditional choice that showcases the distillery's character without the weight of sherry influence. On the nose, Imperial reveals a soft, fruity profile: ripe cherry, grape, and apricot lead, followed by vanilla and honey. The palate brings creamy sweetness balanced against subtle spice and dry oak, with notes of peach and green leaf. The finish is measured and elegant—not a dramatic close, but a gradual fade typical of well-aged Speyside spirit.
