Brugse Whisky Company, founded in 2019 by Thibaut and Peter Meyer in Bruges, represents Belgium's emerging whisky ambition. The distillery builds on a deep heritage of spirits production in the region — as jenever declined in popularity, forward-thinking producers recognized an opportunity to craft single malt whisky that honours local tradition while reaching international standards. This Premium Belgian Single Malt has matured across bourbon, oloroso, port, and merlot casks — a deliberate blend of influences. Bourbon provides structure and vanilla backbone, while the wine and fortified casks contribute layers of fruit and sweetness. On the nose, vanilla, honey, and creamy toffee lead, with fresh green apple and lemon zest cutting through. The palate arrives smooth and sweet, revealing stewed pear, subtle earthiness, and toasted oak. The finish is fruity and lingering, with cherry and chocolate notes holding firm. For a whisky from a distillery barely five years old, this shows remarkable maturity and balance — a signal that Belgian single malt deserves serious attention.
