2008 North British Single Grain 13y
About
North British Distillery was founded in 1885 as a cooperative by four prominent blenders—Andrew Usher, William Sanderson, John Crabbie, and James Calder—and grew into one of Scotland's largest grain whisky producers. This 2008 distillate represents a rare single-grain bottling from a distillery whose output has historically been absorbed into major blends. North British's recipe uses maize and malted barley in an 85:15 ratio, creating a light, approachable spirit. At 13 years, this single grain showcases the refined character of Lowland grain whisky: soft and accessible, remarkably free of the alcohol bite or cereal harshness that can mark younger examples. The nose reveals buttery, cookie-dough sweetness with layers of vanilla and dried fruit. The palate brings fluffy vanilla textures, toffee, and gentle spice, balanced by a crisp, mineral edge. The finish is clean and dry, with toasted oak and a whisper of pepper.

Delightfully smooth, friendly and approachable whisky. Really nice paired with fudge - suddenly coffee comes to the fore in your taste
