About
Ledaig is the peated expression of Tobermory distillery, established on the Isle of Mull in 1798 by John Sinclair, a kelp merchant. When Burn Stewart acquired the distillery in 1993, they revived the original Ledaig name in 2007 as the brand for the distillery's heavily peated single malt—a deliberate return to heritage that distinguishes it from Tobermory's unpeated core range. This 10-year-old has been matured in second-fill bourbon casks and bottled at 46.3% ABV. The result is a peated whisky that avoids the medicinal heaviness of Islay; instead, it balances smoke with island character—briny, mineral, and touched by sea air. On the nose, gentle peat mingles with soft fruit, barley, and briny moss. The palate is oily and velvety, with dry peat smoke, white pepper, ginger, and hints of honey and citrus. Oak provides structure without dominance. The finish is long and dry, with lingering smoke and floral notes that feel distinctly maritime—a whisky that tastes of Mull's windswept shores.
