About
Hart Brothers releases this 2013 Tamdhu as an independent bottling from a distillery committed entirely to sherry cask maturation. Tamdhu was founded in 1897 by a group of entrepreneurs led by William Grant, driven by the ambition to create the finest whisky in the world. After a brief closure in the 2000s, Ian Macleod Distillers revived it with sherry cask maturation as the core strategy. This 8-year-old from 2013 was matured entirely in sherry casks, evident in its full colour and characterful nose. The nose reveals candied yellow fruit, soft apples and pears, with honey and sugar. On the palate, milk chocolate, green and yellow fruit, honey and cinnamon emerge, with subtle hints of mint. The finish delivers warmth and pencil-shaving oak notes, typical of young sherry-matured whisky. This is whisky that shows the Tamdhu profile clearly—not buried under heavy cask influence, but rather in balance with the underlying malt. At 50% ABV, it offers sufficient structure without excess.

I initially smell and taste only alcohol. After some time 'airing' and a few drops of water, the flavor improves somewhat, but the nose remains very sharp unfortunately. Definitely not my favorite.
