A limited-edition 2023 release, exclusively available in Japanese travel retail. Hakushu, established by Suntory in 1973, is renowned for its location in the Japanese Alps and refined character. This Bittersweet Edition was matured exclusively in Spanish oak casks, creating a distinctive interplay of sweetness and subtle bitterness. The nose opens with citrus oil, orange marmalade, and hints of manuka honey. On the palate, rich and layered notes emerge: cacao, dark chocolate, raisins, and tobacco leaf, grounded by brown sugar and earthy undertones. The finish maintains that refined balance between sweet and bitter, with white pepper and light smoke gradually fading. This whisky allows the quality of the Spanish oak to shine without overwhelming the distillate. The combination of citrus, dark dried fruits, and chocolate makes this a compelling limited release from one of Japan's most respected distilleries.
