Decadent Drinks bottled just 231 bottles for their Whiskyland series, Chapter Twenty-Nine. After 35 years in a refill hogshead, this Highland single malt achieves a delicate balance between age and vitality. The nose unfolds gradually: white fruits like pear and nectarine give way to a tropical wave of mango and pineapple. Waxy notes, floral honey and hints of pine resin add freshness, with a curious whiff of fresh paint lending unexpected intrigue. On the palate, tropical fruit explodes: mango, gooseberries and passion fruit syrup, supported by a creamy texture. Vanilla cake and light oak spice follow, though the finish is shorter than one might expect. What lingers is a layer of malty sweetness and fresh fruity echoes. This dram recalls old Caperdonichs—mature, elegant and full of characterful nuance. The modest strength (41.5%) is no hindrance; rather, it allows subtlety to speak.
