Knockdhu is defined by its heavily peated new make spirit, a character that persists even in this 20-year refill cask expression. This is a rare release: just 114 bottles filled in 2026 by Decadent Drinks from 2006 distillate. Two decades in refill wood have refined the spirit without erasing its smoky foundation. On the nose, damp oak, silage and comforting bonfire smoke open the scene—a layered combination that reflects the extended maturation. Honeyed peat smoke, waxy citrus and soft vanilla follow. The palate brings a waxy quality alongside peat smoke, black peppercorns and honey. It remains robust but not overwhelming, with orchard fruit and herbal notes in the background. The finish is medium-length, with seaweed, saline notes and a nutty sweetness that closes the journey. This is not an easy drinker, but rather a whisky that pushes you into corners you don't dare venture into—which is precisely the point.
