An Islay Single Malt 'LP' 34 Year Old 1991 The Whisky Jury

Bourbon Barrel

About

The Whisky Jury released two 1991 Islay bottlings in 2026: one for general release, the other exclusively for Passion for Whisky in the Netherlands and Lucky Choice in Australasia. This 34-year-old single malt matured entirely in refill bourbon and was bottled at natural cask strength (49.5%). It exemplifies old-school Islay balance—medicinal and fruity elements in harmony. The nose reveals mellow smoke with herbal notes (camphor, iodine) interwoven with tight citrus (lemon, lime) and tropical fruit, particularly guava. On the palate, a petroly peat style emerges alongside seawater and brine that amplify the citrus. Mid-palate brings stone fruit (peach, papaya, passion fruit), then subtle orange pith bitterness and leather. The finish is long, peppery and citrus-driven, with barbecued pineapple and salt lingering. What distinguishes this mature dram is its ability to retain smoky character without heaviness—a hallmark of the exceptional 1991 vintage.
