About

This is a joint bottling between Chorlton Whisky and The Rare Malt in Hong Kong – a partnership that finally gives this often-overlooked Speyside distillery the recognition it deserves. After 23 years in a refill hogshead, this whisky has developed a character that surprises: not heavy or oaky, but exuberant and refined. The nose is bright and floral, with blossom, warm oranges, honey and aniseed-like touches of thyme oil. There are hints of banana and hoppy ale too, with citrus building as it breathes. On the palate come sweet fruit syrups and honey, cut through by zingy citrus. The texture is particularly lovely – almost like melted ice-cream – before a long finish of honey, nougat and orange. With water it becomes even more approachable: sweet, citrussy, with hints of chocolate wafer. This is Speyside of genuine quality that drinks beautifully without needing bombast. At just 226 bottles and cask strength (58.6%), it's a discovery for those willing to look beyond the famous names.
