Tobermory Ledaig Castaway

Ledaig Castaway

About

Ledaig Castaway is a limited-edition peated single malt from Tobermory Distillery on the Hebridean Isle of Mull. The name draws from Gaelic 'Ledaig', meaning 'Safe Haven'—apt for a whisky that marries maritime smoke with tropical character. This expression unites three worlds: Scottish peated barley, Caribbean rum casks, and Mexican tequila casks, yielding a distinctive blend of briny peat, agave, and exotic fruit. Bottled at cask strength (61.1% ABV), Castaway delivers the full intensity of this unconventional maturation. The rum and tequila cask combination layers complexity: tropical notes of grilled pineapple and mango meet salted vanilla and warm spice, while underlying peat anchors the whole. On the palate, an oily, viscous mouthfeel carries ashen smoke, bitter citrus, and charred oak, developing into liquorice and mineral depth. It's a whisky unafraid of contrast—smoky and sweet, maritime and exotic, demanding attention without apology.
