About
The Concertmaster series honours the concertmaster—the lead violin in an orchestra—reflecting founder Tsen-Tsai Lee's passion for classical music. Like a symphony, each element plays its part: Kavalan's single malt matures rapidly in Taiwan's subtropical humidity, purified by Snow Mountain's meltwater, then finishes in Portuguese Port casks. This Port Cask Finish balances tropical fruit, vanilla, and honey with the dark, sticky richness of Port wine. The result is pleasantly textured—not cloying despite the Port influence, but rather a conversation between malty sweetness and wine-driven depth. The mouth feel is notably thick and slightly chewy, a signature of the malt character. On the nose: tropical fruit, coconut, and honey. The palate unfolds with spiced pepper, caramel, and red apple, while the finish brings toffee and dry oak, lingering with hints of red berries and pepper. This is a whisky that rewards patient exploration, its layers revealing themselves slowly.
