About
Arran Barley is a statement: in 1994, Harold Currie—a former Chivas director—brought legal distillation back to an island once famous for hidden stills and quiet rebellion. This 10-year-old single malt honours that heritage by placing locally grown barley at its centre. The malt sources from Scotland's northeast, fermented with water from Loch na Davie, and matured in bourbon casks into a whisky that treats grain not as backdrop but as lead character. In the glass, a bright and expressive dram unfolds. The nose brings fresh fruit and citrus alongside warm, malty tones and subtle honey. On the palate, a rich, syrupy texture reveals vanilla and caramel mingling with tropical fruit and liquorice. The finish lingers warm and fruity, with apple and a slow liquorice fade. This is no attempt to echo traditional Arran character—it's a deliberate choice to let the raw material speak. For anyone curious about what barley quality truly means.
