Mossburn's 12-year-old Calvados Cask Finish represents a distinctive collaboration between this Speyside blender and Domaine Dupont, the celebrated Calvados producer from Normandy. The whisky was aged for twelve years in refill American oak hogsheads before undergoing a secondary maturation in French oak casks that previously held Calvados and Pommeau. The result is a complex, well-rounded dram with remarkable fruity character rarely seen in Scotch whisky. On the nose, fresh apple and apple cider notes emerge, followed by warming spice and nutty undertones. The palate is viscous and bold, revealing brown sugar, baked apple, and overripe pear, complemented by ginger and soft spice that linger gracefully. The finish is long and gently drying, with an elegant balance of orchard fruit sweetness and peppery warmth that lingers beautifully.
