Hungarian Oak Limited Release
About
The Isle of Raasay Hungarian Oak Limited Release is an experimental single malt that unites two worlds: Hungarian oak from the Zemplén Mountains and ex-Oloroso sherry. This lightly peated Hebridean whisky is matured in barriques of Quercus petraea, a slow-growing oak species with fine grain that enables controlled interaction between wood and spirit. The result is a refined, layered profile where spicy characteristics from Hungarian oak harmonize with the soft, fruity warmth of Oloroso sherry. On the nose, orange zest, toasted hazelnuts, and floral geranium lead the way, with cinnamon, ginger, and sponge cake notes emerging beneath. The palate is lively and complex: ginger takes the lead, followed by rich coffee, sweet Oloroso influence, and dark chocolate. The finish is long and warming, with sweet orange, lingering ginger, and a delicate smoky bacon note. This limited release showcases how Isle of Raasay's wood experimentation series discovers new dimensions while respecting the distillery's signature lightly peated character.
