About
Caol Ila's whiskies from Islay are celebrated for their distinctive smoky and iodine-driven character, and this 2010 vintage is a fine example of the distillery's signature style. Gordon & MacPhail has finished this single malt in Sassicaia casks—previously used for Italian red wine—adding an elegant layer of complexity to the classic Islay smokiness. The nose reveals an appealing blend of dried fruits, particularly dates, complemented by warming spices like cinnamon and subtle smoke. On the palate, the full peat character emerges, balanced by fruity notes of redcurrant and lemon peel. The red wine cask finish contributes softness and depth, while the finish remains dry and smoke-driven with hints of wood and a gentle bitterish edge. This whisky pairs beautifully with smoked meats, grilled fish, or robust cheeses that can stand up to its smoky intensity.
