About

Kilkerran's 8 Years Sherry Cask Matured is a robust single malt from Campbeltown, delivering surprising depth and character for its age. The influence of quality sherry casks combined with subtle peat smoke creates a well-balanced, mature whisky that punches above its years. On the nose, dark forest fruits dominate—blackcurrant, brambles, and blueberries—followed by ripe plums and figs. Rich honey and caramel fudge provide sweetness, while tobacco leaves and walnuts add earthy complexity. The palate reveals juicy red and black fruits with a trace of smoke, complemented by jammy compote notes and subtle spice. The finish is warm and lingering, with persistent sherry influence and a gentle dryness. This cask strength expression pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, smoked meats, or a selection of aged cheeses.

Nose A Phenomenal bouquet of scents. Unlike anything I've ever smelled in a whisky. Fruity notes kick you in the face. Caramelized pineapple and sour berries take the first nose, then comes the red fruit and a very slight peaty note. When drunk without a splash of water, the alcohol is present and can surprise a bit. Since it is cask strength, I would advise some water to be added to taste. Palate The taste is equally interesting as the smell. The same sweet and sour berry taste. But also something savory. It doesn't disappoint, even after many glasses. On of my most positively surprising bottles. Does benefit a lot from a decent splash of water due to the cask strength. Finish When drunk with a splash of water the finish is smooth, fruity and slightly peaty. Conclusion Absolute banger for this price. Too bad that the availability is limited.
