Smokin' Riff
About
Turntable Spirits was founded by brothers Ally and Gordon Stevenson, two whisky industry veterans who decided to blend their passion for music with their craft. Smokin' Riff takes its name from a rock classic and embodies their philosophy: small-batch blends, each with distinct character and intention. This blend pairs smoky Islay malt—chiefly Caol Ila—with sweet, fruited layers from PX casks and virgin oak. Bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtering, it preserves the full texture of its five components: Caol Ila in bourbon and red wine casks, Knockdhu, Craigellachie, and North British grain. The result is a deliberate counterbalance: smoke that never dominates, held in check by toffee, dried fruit, and subtle maritime undertones. On the nose, campfire smoke arrives first, followed by vanilla and barley sugar. The palate is medium-bodied and reaches for a toasted-marshmallow sensation—smoke and toffee fused with pear, raisin, and cinnamon. The finish clings to that smoke-and-sweet marriage without overstaying its welcome. A blend for those who appreciate peat without theatre: a dram that works without fuss.
