About
Compass Box was founded in 2000 by John Glaser with a clear mission: to make Scotch whisky more interesting. The Peat Monster Cask Strength exemplifies this philosophy — a blended malt born from collaboration between Glaser and Jonathan Goldstein of Park Avenue Liquors in New York. Despite its Scottish components, this whisky is literally "born in the USA", designed to celebrate the transatlantic relationship between Scotland and America. The blend draws primarily from Caol Ila (64%) and Williamson (35%), with a dash of a third distillery. Two-thirds of the components matured in toasted and lightly charred virgin American oak — an unconventional choice that underscores the symbiosis between both nations. Bottled at cask strength (56.7% ABV), without colour or chill-filtration, this whisky retains complete expressivity. On the nose: bright citrus (lemon peel, grapefruit) gives way to green, leafy notes and a pleasant smoky undertone. The palate brings vanilla, toffee, and almond, interwoven with pepper and spice, while smoke remains subtly present throughout. The finish is warm and layered, toffee and dried spices lingering long after the glass empties.
