Millstone 2017 is an exceptional single malt whisky from the Dutch Zuidam Distillery, matured in authentic ex-solera Moscatel sherry casks. This bottling exemplifies the distillery's commitment to traditional, quality cask management—eschewing heavily seasoned alternatives in favour of genuine solera vessels. At 46% ABV, it strikes a remarkable balance between complexity and approachability. The nose presents a refined medley of dried fruits, toasted oak, and sweet caramel notes with subtle hints of smoke. On the palate, rich fruit character emerges—sultanas and raisins—complemented by hazelnut and chocolate, whilst the Moscatel cask imparts elegant sweetness. The finish is soft and well-integrated, with lingering dried fruit and a pleasant, warming fade. Never woody, this whisky demonstrates the quality inherent in proper ex-solera maturation.
