About
Cambus was a pioneering Scottish grain whisky distillery in the Lowlands, renowned as one of the first to employ column distillation. This 1988 PDnl is a rare, fully matured grain whisky aged for 33 years in a refill hogshead, offering a fascinating window into grain whisky's evolution over three decades. Its deep golden hue and extended cask maturation promise complexity and refinement. The nose reveals burnt sugar, candied orange, and boiled sweets, complemented by fresh wood shavings. On the palate, a slightly syrupy mouthfeel opens with caramel and honey, subtle Amaretto notes, and excellent balance. The finish is sweet and custardy, with banana cream pie characteristics and lingering vanilla, creating a smooth and satisfying conclusion. This well-aged grain whisky rewards whisky enthusiasts seeking the refined character of classic Scotch distilling and the sophisticated depth that only decades of maturation can achieve.
