The Maverick is a tribute to The Scotch Malt Whisky Society's founding spirit and a distinguished Speyside single malt that celebrates the organisation's 40-year legacy. This 12-year-old expression showcases the distillery's refined character, elevated by a sophisticated double sherry finish combining Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks. The result is a whisky of considerable depth and maturity, balancing fruit-forward character with rich, warming spice. On the nose, cooked orchard fruits—ripe peach and stewed brown apple—mingle with festive Christmas cake and dark dried fruit notes. The palate reveals toffee apple, liquorice, and creamy milk chocolate, layered with cardamom, orange spice, and hints of marzipan. The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of dried orange peel, fresh oak, and a waxy, elegant fade that speaks to the quality of its cask maturation.
