About
This rare Braes of Glenlivet from 1991, bottled by Murray McDavid, is a mature and refined single malt that has spent three decades developing complexity in the bottle. Finished in a Margaux Wine Cask, this expression brings an elegant, wine-forward dimension to a classic Speyside distillate. It represents a valuable piece of whisky history from a distillery that would later be renamed Braeval. The nose reveals a harmonious bouquet of tropical fruits—mango, banana, and kiwi—complemented by sweet vanilla and creamy coconut notes. The influence of well-polished oak is subtle yet present. On the palate, a full, oily texture unfolds with tones of grenadine syrup, forest fruits, and sweet wine, supported by gentle spice and roasted chestnuts. The finish is elegant and lingering, with dried fruit notes and fine oak tannins that complement the wine-cask character.
