About
This rare 1990 BenRiach, bottled by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society as 12.63, represents a masterclass in refined Speyside distilling. After 31 years of maturation in ex-bourbon barrels, this whisky has developed into a complex, sophisticated dram with remarkable balance between fruit-forward character and sweet, creamy notes. The nose reveals layers of honey, vanilla, and soft grain, followed by hints of hazelnut and grassy undertones. On the palate, toasted oak meets dark caramel and mature spice, with prominent oily vanilla and a medley of dark and dried tropical fruits. Peach, plum, and lemon zest provide fresh counterpoints to the rich sweetness. The finish brings ginger and nutmeg to the fore, with subtle peppery notes that showcase the full complexity of this well-aged expression.
