About
This Mortlach 20 Year Old from 2005 is a classic expression of Speyside character, captivated by its distinctive waxy texture and refined balance between sweetness and austerity. Matured in first-fill bourbon barrel, this whisky delivers a rich, oily palate with bright citrus and herbal notes. The nose reveals full-on waxiness reminiscent of candles and fresh putty, layered with yellow apple, light melon, lemon oil and subtle vanilla. On the palate, the waxy texture continues alongside lemon curd, melons and hints of bitter orange, underpinned by bread dough and gorse with increasingly herbal and mineral elements. The finish is medium to long, featuring bittersweet green fruits, malty notes and fine herbs. This is quintessential Mortlach—balancing sweetness and austerity in a sophisticated, non-smoky package.
