Compass Box breaks a fundamental rule of blended whisky: normally, a blend is only as old as its youngest drop. This is a 10 Year Old does something radical—every drop in the bottle is precisely ten years old. The four constituent whiskies (69.3% Clynelish ex-bourbon, 20.4% Ardnamurchan peated, 6.8% Ardnamurchan unpeated, and 3.5% Linkwood Palo Cortado) all turned ten years old on the same day, a rare precision in blending. This is a deliberate statement by Compass Box—the name says it all. The blender, founded by American John Glaser in 2000, is known for its unconventional approach to Scotch whisky. This release marries the waxy, fruity character of Clynelish with the smoky edge of Ardnamurchan and the subtle sherry influence of Linkwood, all without added color or chill filtration. Bottled at 50.5% ABV, limited to 3,610 bottles. The nose offers fruity flowers and vanilla; the palate adds citrus and oak with a smoky undertone; the finish closes with citrus and toffee. A blend entirely transparent about what's inside—no smoke and mirrors, just four components in their fullest form.
