Deanston Orange Wine Cask is a bold Highland single malt that challenges convention with its experimental cask finishing. After 15 years maturing in ex-bourbon casks, this whisky undergoes a distinctive 2-year finish in Vino de Naranja casks from Andalucia—a rare choice that sets it apart from traditional Scottish releases. Master blender Julieann Fernandez drew inspiration from her family heritage in southern Spain, creating a whisky that balances heritage with innovation at a robust 53.6% ABV. On the nose, fresh orange zest and marmalade lead, complemented by dried stone fruit, fragrant honey, and toasted almonds. The palate delivers a rich interplay of bitter citrus and roasted nuts against a backdrop of malty sweetness and soft spices, showcasing the orange wine cask's influence. The finish lingers long and slightly dry, with citrus oils and light spice creating an elegant fade.
