2011 13 Year Old Corporal Wojtek Oloroso Sherry & Bourbon Finish
About
Benrinnes, a Speyside distillery renowned for full-bodied and fruity expressions, presents this 13-year-old as a remarkable testament to careful cask selection. Matured in oloroso sherry and finished in bourbon, it achieves a beautiful harmony between rich fruit character and subtle oak influence. Named after Corporal Wojtek, a decorated bear who served with the Polish Army during World War II, this bottling honours a symbol of courage and loyalty. The nose reveals blueberry jam, stewed plums, and dried fruits, crowned with honeyed notes and toffee sweetness. On the palate, stewed berries and damsons give way to marmalade, walnuts, and candied ginger, with acacia honey providing sweetness. The wood emerges mid-palate with black tea and herbal complexity, finishing with roasted pecans. A long, warming finish brings black pepper, caramel, and drying tobacco leaves—a robust yet elegant conclusion to a truly rewarding dram.
