About

Lady Luck is a masterstroke by John Glaser, the independent vatting wizard behind Compass Box. This blended malt was conceived as a deliberate homage to 'Serendipity', a legendary Islay blend that Compass Box staff nicknamed 'the lucky blend'. The result: just 754 bottles of a trio spanning three decades — two old Caol Ilas from 1980 and 1984, paired with a 1995 Imperial. The blend is intentionally contrasting: the smoky, briny character of the aged Islay malts clashes against the fruity, sweet maturity of the younger Imperial. This tension is precisely what Glaser sought. The nose opens with apple, citrus and toffee from the Imperial, before the old Islay steps in with smoke, tar and seaweed. On the palate, that balance persists — pepper and salt alongside honey and sweet apple. The finish is long and structured, a satisfying merger of smoke and fruit that complements rather than dominates.
