2014 James Eadie 9y
About
James Eadie is not a distillery but a resurrected historical brand. The original James Eadie (1827–1904) was a Scottish brewer who founded a thriving brewery in Burton-upon-Trent in 1854. After 160 years in obscurity, the name was brought back to life in 2016 by his great-great-grandson, who dedicated himself to bottling exceptional single malts. This 2014 Benrinnes is matured in first-fill sherry cask and bottled in 2023 at 46% ABV. Benrinnes itself is known for its uncompromising production methods—the distillery still uses worm tubs, which impart a distinctive oily, meaty character to its whiskies. That signature shows here, enriched by the dark, sweet influence of sherry wood. On the nose, sandalwood and gorse flower emerge alongside citrus peels and seashell minerality. The palate is fruity and almost dessert-like—dried apricot, pear, toffee apple—with creamy vanilla and butterscotch notes binding it together. The finish carries that oily Benrinnes DNA forward, balanced by warming oak.
