Art & Decadence
About
Art & Decadence draws its inspiration from the British Aesthetic Movement of the late 19th century—that cohort of bold young radicals who rejected the ugliness of their age. Compass Box channels this philosophy into a blended whisky built on Balmenach malt, finished separately for nearly a year in three different ex-wine casks: Sauternes, Marsala, and Madeira. The result is deliberately excessive—decadent by design. The nose reveals red apple, pear, and honeyed waxed oak, with a creamy liquorice undertone. The palate unfolds dried fruit—apricot, golden raisin—alongside vanilla and toffee, anchored by that wine-cask structure. The finish brings dark chocolate and fragrant oak, with just enough bitterness to prevent the sweetness from tipping into cloying. This is a whisky for the dessert course, when the table fills with chocolate, pudding, and cheese—the very moment of indulgence this bottle was made for.
