Metropolis
About
Compass Box was founded in 2000 by John Glaser, a former Johnnie Walker marketing director, to reinvent blended Scotch on its own terms. Metropolis is the third release in the Extinct Blends Quartet—a series reconstructing lost classics from blending's own history. The name honours the birthplace of blended whisky itself: Glasgow and Edinburgh, where distilleries combined their casks to supply the urban centres of the world. This blend marries malt whisky from Bowmore with a layered parcel of grain and malt, matured in American and European oak. A sherry-matured component adds fatness and dried fruit richness. Bottled at 49% ABV without chill-filtering. The nose reveals fresh fruit, vanilla and honey—a prelude to the complexity ahead. The palate unfolds with rounded, oily texture: orange peel, dried fruits and tropical notes, framed by woodsmoke and spice. The finish lingers with caramel, honey and a subtle smoky echo.
